All these years the far right has been pointing to incompetence and blunders on the left and claiming they are intentional malevolence (on occasion yes they are, but on the whole progress is made under democratic leadership), while actively asserting their own intentional malevolence is in fact buffoonish incompetence (ie with gw. bush, the tea party, qanon, MTG). They know in their hearts they are on the selfish path, assume that everyone else is also secretly harboring the same selfish thoughts, and therefore assume that the only thing holding us back from our “true nature” is some woke agenda that’s brainwashed us. They don’t understand that we genuinely do not have some secret stash of hate that’s kept under wraps by social pressure, unlike them. The right quietly dismantles the structures that help people do they can suck all the resources from them (like public schools or medicare/Obamacare), all the while saying “look at these democrat run cities!” and performing incompetence. It’s a performance – each individual stupid sounding comment or seemingly in-poor-taste act is actually very calculated. They scream “those Democrats/leftists/libs are pedophiles! Satanists! Terrorists! Communists!” Over and over, and at first like with the tea party everyone laughs. I can see Russia from my house is so funny! Those foolish idiots, ha ha ha no one takes them seriously! His spray tan, her bad makeup, that gaff, those clowns! They’ll never get anywhere. Ignore them… (No one is laughing anymore…). Finally, after years of this bombardment of twisted reality, after involvement from all the oligarchs who own the government and run social media now, you have a population that all believes “both sides are equally bad” so they might as well vote for the guy who wants to blow it all up, right? If the left is assumed to be secretly hateful with faulty rhetoric that’s upheld by all social media, and the right is openly hateful, and you yourself have just a smidge of hate in your heart, why not just embrace the side that’s “honest” and open about it, right? There is no “good,” it’s all an act by people infected with the woke mind virus being dishonest about their true nature, so lean into it right? And that’s how you get Trump and the modern day Nazi party rising to power.
